Duct tape has become a universal tool in almost every handyman’s bag. It is a staple in temporary household and even industrial repairs. As its popularity continues to grow, so do its uses. Here are five things you may not have known that you can easily do with a simple roll of duct tape.
Repair watercraft
Duct tape has been used for years in temporary watercraft repair. Its water resistant qualities have been used to aid in repairing small holes and leaks on recreation watercraft. It’s small enough to carry on board and can literally be life saving in a water leak emergency.
This has been used on everything from canoes to inflatable boats. Some well-known races have been created out of this with a challenge to make a full floating boat from only cardboard and duct tape.
Jar Opener
Mason Jars and other large containers with screw lids can be difficult to open after a fresh seal. Duct tape works well in these situations as a simple jar opener. Simply wrap the tape around the lid, making sure to stick the loose end under the lip of the lip. Work the tape about ¾ of the way around the jar. Hold the jar and firmly pull. The tape will turn the lid as it slowly releases.
Pet Hair Remover
Duct tape is a time and money saver for stubborn pet hair. Simply roll a piece around your hand with the sticky side out. Then rub your hand over your clothing or furniture. The stickiness of the tape will collect pet hair and lint more effectively than your traditional link remover. For an added bonus, run your tape covered hand along the creases and hidden pockets of your couch and see what else you didn’t even know was there.
Laminating
Clear duct tape has an immeasurable amount of uses. This transparent tape has the identical qualities of its silver pre-assessor without the colour. Use it on documents that you want protected. Simply place even strips of tape over both sides of a paper to create your own version of laminated document. This is great for birth certificates and health care information that you carry with you on a daily basis.
Illuminated Lines
Glow-in-the-dark duct tape may be the most entertaining of all in this tape family. Still water resistant, super adhesive and containing all of the repairing qualities, it can be used both indoors and out to create illuminated lines on pathways and buildings. It is a fantastic way to mark the way to outhouses during a camping trip.
With some imagination it can be a great addition to playrooms creating a fantastic illuminations on book shelves, window frames and even mirrors.
There are literally thousands of uses for duct tape, with a little imagination and unconventional thinking you will find that there is very little that cannot be done with this important handyman’s tool.
